The NL Construction Association says no matter which party forms government in a couple of weeks, there needs to be a plan to address construction needs across the province.
Yesterday, the association released its advocacy platform for the provincial election.
They are looking for a number of commitments including a multi-year strategic infrastructure plan, regional collaboration to ensure that all communities benefit from projects, and policies and initiatives to address the expansion of the workforce.
Board chair Stephen Short says those commitments are important considering the amount of activity they are expecting over the next number of years.
He says there are mega projects related to the MOU, potential Bay du Nord construction, and what he calls “bread and butter” infrastructure that communities need. Short says the federal government is making moves on so-called nation-building projects, and he believes that indications point to a “high volume” of infrastructure funding over the next few years. He wants whichever party forms government to have a clear plan to get from “funding to foundation” quickly.
