NLCA to Launch Provincial Election Advocacy Platform at Western Membership Meeting

St. John’s, NL – The Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association (NLCA) will officially launch its 2025 Provincial Election Advocacy Platform, Building for Growth, Building for the Future, during the Western Membership Meeting in Corner Brook on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Representing over 550 member firms across the province, NLCA is the voice of Newfoundland and Labrador’s commercial and industrial construction industry. The platform outlines key recommendations to close the infrastructure deficit, address the province’s workforce shortages and build vibrant communities that support long-term economic growth.

“Our industry is the backbone of Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy, employing thousands of people across every region of the province,” said Stephen Short, Chair of the NLCA Board of Directors. “This advocacy platform is about ensuring that the construction sector continues to create opportunities, strengthen communities, and partner with government to deliver the infrastructure our province needs.”

Election Advocacy Platform Highlights

The 2025 Election Advocacy Platform identifies three strategic priorities for Newfoundland and Labrador:

  • Addressing the Infrastructure Deficit – Advocating for a multi-year Strategic Infrastructure Plan, predictable funding, and regional collaboration to ensure every community benefits.
  • Expanding the Workforce – Tackling labour shortages through skilled trades training, immigration pathways, and inclusive recruitment.
  • Placemaking and Community Building – Supporting local contractors, investing in civic and cultural spaces, and advancing sustainable construction practices.

With provincial election day approaching, NLCA is calling on all political parties to commit to policies that will support industry growth and foster resilient, sustainable communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Construction is about more than steel and concrete—it’s about creating strong foundations for people and communities,” said Rhonda Neary, President & COO of NLCA. “We look forward to engaging with policymakers and ensuring that the priorities of our industry and members are reflected in the next government’s agenda.”

A Call for Engagement

NLCA welcomes open dialogue with all political parties on the advocacy points outlined in this platform. By sharing our priorities, we invite all parties to respond and work collaboratively with the NLCA to advance solutions that benefit Newfoundland and Labrador.
