Fundamentals of Blueprint Reading

Blueprints are the foundation of any construction project. Participants will learn about tolerances, dimensions, basic design concepts and key terminology relevant to interpreting blueprints.

The course utilizes lectures, hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises to familiarize participants with the art of blueprint reading. The instructor will review sets of commercial construction documents.

Course outline will include: basic tools; types of drawing; orthographic drawings; major disciplines; Architectural, civil/ landscape, structural, mechanical, electrical; drawing components; building plans; estimating; tendering; contract documents; specifications; scope of work; regulatory requirements… and more!

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the inter-relationship between the drawings included in a set of Construction Documents (blueprints)
  • Analyze different drawings and see how scale is presented throughout a set of Construction Documents
  • Recognize the need for consistency in presenting information in all types of Construction Documents

Cost: $108.34 plus hst for members: $425.00 plus hst for non-members.
